Fruit Bats

Indie-rock band Fruit Bats will be performing at Brooklyn Bowl Philly on Wednesday, April 19th with special guest H.C. McEntire.

The band formed in 1997 in Chicago, Illinois with the remaining member being songwriter Eric D. Johnson. They’ve tourned with bands like Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Modest Mouse and The Shins before signing to the Sub Pop record label in 2002. Their song “When U Love Somebody” played in the film Youth in Revolt and was covered by The Decemberists, Guster and Said the Whale. In 2013, Johnson announced he would disband Fruit Bats and released his own solo album EDJ. Fruit Bats reformed in 2015, signing to Merge Records. Johnson also formed the band Bonny Light Horsemen.

Fruit Bats have cited musical influence from The Velvet Underground, the Beatles’ White Album, Joni Mitchell, Prince, and The Grateful Dead.

Their latest album A River Running To Your Heart will be released April 14th, 2023.
