Half Alive (written half•alive on listening platforms) is coming to Emo’s Austin just next week on April 17th! Not only is the band known for their unique sound, but their cinematic and choreographed music videos have caught the eyes of many. The North American leg of the tour starts on April 15th in Phoenix, Arizona and Austin is the second stop on the tour! The band’s verbal excitement for this tour shows how excited they are to hit the Emo’s stage with special guests Tessa Violet and Dev Lemons!
The relatively new band was formed in Long Beach, California in 2016. Lead singer Josh Taylor and drummer Brett Kramer knew each other by attending the same non-denominational church. At the time, Taylor had a magnitude of new music he was itching to release, and Kramer had the sound he was looking for. The two released Half Alive’s first single, “The Fall,” and the EP, 3, on April 24th, 2017. The three songs on the EP collected over 4 million streams on Spotify within a year of it’s release and has grown significantly since then. Due to the sudden spark of interest in their music, the two thought they needed a live and authentic sound if they were to go on tour. This was when they found bassist J. Tyler Johnson to join the band!
Their best known single, “Still Feel,” was released on August 3rd, 2018 and brought more fans to the bands streaming services. The attention they received from this single gained so much traction that RCA Records saw their potential as a world-class band. The band signed to them shortly after and their first show occurred at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles in October of 2018. This was the first time the 3 performed live together and the show was a hit. Quickly after this, the band was anticipating the release of new music. They released a new single, “Arrow” on January 18th of 2019 which left fans wanting more. Since then, the band has released EP, In Florescence, the album Now, Not Yet, a part album titled Give Me Your Shoulders Pt. 1, newest album Conditions Of A punk and a documentary titled, “Now, Not Yet: In Florescence” on their YouTube channel.
The bands style of music can be described as incorporating elements of soul, funk and R&B, but their main genres include pop, alternative rock, indie pop, dance and electric. Their newest album, Conditions Of A Punk, is an alternative album released on December 2nd, 2022, and is the reason for this new tour. Their music inspiration comes from experimenting with sounds from the 1960’s, 1970’s and a love for contemporary music.
Just last month, the band released a new song titled “Beige” on March 15th with a music video to follow! The excitement buzzing around this song being performed live is unmatched! Don’t miss your chance to see Half Alive live from Emo’s Austin! Opening acts Tessa Violet and Dev Lemons will start the show with a lively energy that will set the precedent for a top notch show!
