On March 9th, The Cure announced their 2023 tour, Shows of the Lost World, with special guests, The Twilight Sad. Since the announcement of their tour, The Cure has been actively trying to resist scalpers and scammers of tickets and have kept their fans updated with what tickets are safe to purchase! They set their base prices as low as $20 before fees on Ticketmaster. They will be playing all of their greatest hits in May 14th at the Moody Center!
The two time Brit Award winning band got its start after winning a talent competition in May of 1977. Only two years later, The Cure released their first album, Three Imaginary Boys, on May 8th, 1979. The band has spoken about how they felt as though they did not have much creative freedom on their first album, so when their second album was released there was a change in style. The band took a more gothic direction with their second album, Seventeen Seconds. The album reached #20 on the UK charts and The Cure saw a spike in popularity. The single, “A Forest,” from the album was the band’s first UK hit single!
Current members Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Roger O’Donnell, Jason Cooper and Reeves Gabrels have seen a lot of new successes in recent years. The band performed at our very own Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2019 and later that month released their DVD, 40 Live: CURÆTION-25 + Anniversary, that featured their performances at Meltdown and Hyde Park. The Cure was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Class of 2019. They have now reached over 30 million album copies worldwide. The band welcomed back guitarist, bassist, and keyboard player Perry Bamonte in 2022!
Although The Cure’s music has been described as gothic rock, punk rock, alternative and new wave, they have stated that they don’t feel like their music should be categorized. They simply want their music to be their own unique sound! In 2021, Robert Smith hunted at the idea of recording two new Cure albums. He also mentioned that the first album would be titled Songs of a Lost World in March of 2022. Although these albums have not been released yet, they have since performed unreleased music that is rumored to be part of these two unreleased albums.
With a discography of 13 studio albums and 2 unreleased albums rumored to be on the way, The Cure has a magnitude of songs that could potentially be a part of the setlist for their upcoming 2023 tour! If you are a fan of The Cure or simply just love their music, don’t miss their concert in Austin on May 14th!
