Nostalgia spliced with glam rock
Starcrazy’s latest album delivers six animated tracks, each as dynamic as the next. The Australian rockers open up Another Day, Another Squalor with a lively track guaranteed to neutralize any workday slump. “Galaxy O’ Luv” features vibrant guitars that don’t hesitate to tackle both ends of the fretboard, a perfect accompaniment for the powerful vocal performance. The drums remain prominent but never overpower the rest of the instrumentation. Anyone in search of a Friday night soundtrack needs only to press “play” on this EP, especially fans of The Darkness.
“The Big Time” is just as bright as its predecessor, a mixture of ambitious guitar riffs and crisp vocals. Although the guitar solos pull focus, they never eclipse the rest of the music. Another impressive guitar riff sets the stage for “The Open Sea,” a track complete with awe-inspiring vocals and a catchy melody. Every guitar solo is spot on, each chord perfectly timed with endless energy.
As the EP progresses, “Egging Me On” offers upbeat, dynamic chords with high-octane vocals. Every song on Another Day, Another Squalor elicits electricity that seamlessly blends glam rock with classic rock. “Hysterical” opens with a more offbeat guitar riff, the song as exhilarating as the rest of the album, the sound classic yet modern. Although it’s challenging to reinvent the musical wheel, Starcrazy has done just that. They’ve flawlessly executed an album that caters to fans of classic rock, modern rock, glam rock and then some.
While most bands throw in the obligatory “ballad,” Starcrazy keeps it fresh with one dynamic song after the next, closing their album out with “Monday Morning (Prayer For Tony).” This sprightly track with punchy vocals delivers fast-paced music that refuses to quit. Another Day, Another Squalor refuses to shy away from the mundane, making it a must-have addition to any music lover’s catalog.
