In November of 2022, Hippo Campus announced their upcoming tour with openers Charly Bliss, Gus Dapperton and Miloe + Papa MBYE. The Austin show on May 19th will have the privilege of seeing Gus Dapperton as the show’s opening act.
As the tour gets closer, promotion for their new EP, Wasteland, is catching media buzz. The EP hits the market on April 14th, but two singles from the EP have already been released to the public. The first single, “Kick in the Teeth,” was released on February 21st and the most recent single, “Yippie Ki Yay,” was released just last week on March 21st. Wasteland is described as being an alternative styled extended play and the two singles give evidence to that. This EP will be the first time the band is releasing new music since the release of their last album, LP3, on February of 2022.
Hippo Campus got their start in 2013 and have classified themselves as an indie-rock band. The band formed on one fateful day when current members Jake Luppen, Nathan Stocker, Zach Sutton and Whistler Allen all met at the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, where they attended to study jazz and opera. Their trumpet player, DeCarlo Jackson, joined the band in 2017 and added a new touch to the band’s music that they had never had before. Since then, they have been on 6 headline tours and continue to write music for their beloved fans.
The hype surrounding the release of Wasteland by fans is evident that the upcoming shows will have a lively crowd. It will be a performance full of new songs and assumable throwbacks to their most popular songs including, “Way it Goes,” “Buttercup” and “Bambi” from their first two albums Landmark and Bambi. You don’t want to miss this performance!
Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com starting at $28 for general lawn seating. The concert will be outdoors so keep an eye out on the weather and dress accordingly!
