The decision to ban the rock icon Roger Waters from performing in Frankfurt, Germany has sparked an uproar among his fans and the music industry. A petition has been launched to reverse the decision and allow the former Pink Floyd member to perform in Frankfurt. Eric Clapton, Nick Mason and many more already added their Hancock to the document with ore on the ay. The petition has gained widespread support from music lovers around the world who are calling on German authorities to reconsider their decision. This is not only a matter of freedom of expression but also a matter of human rights as it affects an individual’s right to freely express themselves through art and music.
“Waters’ criticism of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is part of his long-term advocacy on behalf of human rights across the globe,” reads the description alongside the petition. “The officials vilifying Waters are engaging in a dangerous campaign that purposely conflates criticism of Israel’s illegal and unjust policies with antisemitism.”
It continues: “Officials in Germany, concert organizers, and music platforms must not succumb to the pressure of those individuals and groups who would rather see Waters’ music removed than engage with the issues his music highlights.”
Last month the option of canceling the upcoming concert was brought up by the German city council and a second petition was launched online opposing the first. The council cited Waters’ “persistent anti-Israel behavior” as the reason. A similar motion also arose against his show in Munich, set for May 21.
