Susanna Hoffs releases a new cover album, The Deep End After a successful career with The Bangles, Susanna Hoffs is striking out on her own with a new album of covers, “The Deep End.”
The album, which is set to release on April 7th via Baroque Folk, features Hoffs’ takes on classics from The Rolling Stones, Squeeze, and Leslie Gore, as well as modern songs by artists like Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, and Brandy Clark.
“The Deep End,” was produced by Peter Asher and provides Hoffs with an opportunity to practice a little gender trouble.
“I’ve listened to [The Rolling Stones’ ‘Under My Thumb’] on repeat since it came out in the mid-’60s,” said the singer of the 80s hit ‘Walk like an Egyptian’ . “[It’s] always been, musically, one of my favorite Stones songs. Lyrically, of course, it’s a different story. But isn’t that what covers are for? To put your own spin on a song and make it your own?”
The album arrives at the same time as The Bird Has Flown, the artist’s debut novel. Pre-orders for both the album and the book are ongoing.
