Susanna Hoffs Announces New Album ‘The Deep End’ For April Release, Shares New Single “Under My Thumb”

Lead singer of the 80s to drop new covers album and  shares single, “Under My Thumb”

Susanna Hoffs releases a new cover album, The Deep End After a successful career with The Bangles, Susanna Hoffs is striking out on her own with a new album of covers, “The Deep End.”

The album, which is set to release on April 7th via Baroque Folk, features Hoffs’ takes on classics from The Rolling Stones, Squeeze, and Leslie Gore, as well as modern songs by artists like Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, and Brandy Clark.

“The Deep End,” was produced by Peter Asher and provides Hoffs with an opportunity to practice a little gender trouble.

“I’ve listened to [The Rolling Stones’ ‘Under My Thumb’] on repeat since it came out in the mid-’60s,” said the singer of the 80s hit ‘Walk like an Egyptian’ .  “[It’s] always been, musically, one of my favorite Stones songs. Lyrically, of course, it’s a different story. But isn’t that what covers are for? To put your own spin on a song and make it your own?”

The album arrives at the same time as The Bird Has Flown, the artist’s debut novel. Pre-orders for both the album and the book are ongoing.  After a successful career with The Bangles, Susanna Hoffs is striking out on her own with a new album of covers, “The Deep End. “The album, which is set to release on April 7th via Baroque Folk, features Hoffs’ takes on classics from The Rolling Stones, Squeeze, and Leslie Gore, as well as modern songs by artists like Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, and Brandy Clark.

With the Bangles, on her acclaimed Under the Covers series with Matthew Sweet, and her distinguished solo career, Susanna Hoffs has established herself as one of the most adept and affecting interpretive singers of the last four decades. “I aim for the emotion to come straight to the surface when I sing—I just go for it,” she offers. “I try to be as vulnerable and emotional as the song permits.”
