The Bouncing Souls at the Culture Room on May 16th

The Bouncing Souls were formed in 1988 by brothers Pat and Tim Hurley and their friend Al Barr. The band’s early years were spent playing house parties, beer bashes and street performances until 1987 when they caught the attention of Steve Albini who signed them to his new record label. The first release was a self-titled eponymous 7″ single produced by Albini featuring “Far Behind Me” on side A and “1888” on side B. In 1990 they released their next EP titled “We Hate Everyone But You,” which featured another work from Albini and went on to be considered as one of their greatest works outside of the first album “Sick Tight”.

Known for their powerful live sound and lighthearted lyrics, the band has garnered many awards and accolades throughout their career including a gold album (2007) and three consecutive platinum albums (1996, 1997, 1998). The band has also performed at numerous festivals such as Lollapalooza and CMJ, as well as toured extensively worldwide (Americas, Europe, Asia).  As of 2015, the band is still touring extensively, headlining shows across the United States and recording a new album for release in 2016.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
