18/2/23 – Chicago, IL – Auditorium Theatre
On February 18th, Tank and The Bangas bring their funk loving energy to the Auditorium Theatre! Last year, the funk band released their album Red Balloon. Since then, they have released singles including “Outside”, “Todo Colores” and “She’s a Rainbow” for the Apple Original Series Ghostwriter. They have been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk Sessions.
The New Orleans band is fronted by Tarriona “Tank” Ball with Joshua Johnson, Norman Spence, and Albert Allenback supporting, according to Wiki. The band doesn’t shy away from experimenting with different types of music. While they generally make r&b music, the group ventures off into funk and trap inspired tracks. Their album, Red Balloon doesn’t shy away from this experimentation.
The songs “Anxiety” and “Who’s in Charge” are dominant, angry trap inspired songs. “Anxiety” references The Matrix by saying she takes the red pill; choosing to experience a world that is cruel and real. In “Who’s in Charge”, Tank is a female dominant song that encourages female empowerment. “Cafe Du Monde” is a classic r&b love song to a cafe in New Orleans. The song features Jamison Ross, Trombone Shorty, and Rachel Robinson in a sultry description of love for the cafe. “Big” features Big Freedia and departs from their r&b sound. The pop funk song features Tank and Freedia brags about their big energy in a Lizzo/Nicki Minaj style song.
You can expect Tank and The Bangas to bring all sorts of energy to their show. You’ll hear a range from loving r&b to aggressive trap music.
