Record brings screaming musical havoc
Heavy metal band Slipknot has been raising hell in people’s minds since 1995 and last month the band released The End, So Far. As a whole, the album is well done by how the band brings a solid dose of madness with their instrumentations and vocal performances. The End, So Far musically displays how Slipknot is nearing the end of its iconic music career.
Head Banger “The Dying Song (Time To Sing)” is a catchy piece that captures what kind of a vocalist Corey Taylor is. He sings and shrieks out the lyrics in pure rage and in some ways, it feels as if he is also expressing the angry feeling others have inside themselves. “The Dying Song (Time To Sing)” proves that Taylor is still capable of singing sharply within the metal genre.
Ear bleeder “Yen” is a composition that deserves to be blasted through the speakers with its strong guitar riffs. Although the music style is a bit softer, the guitar playing by Mick Thomson and Jim Root brings a heavy kick of harmonic notes. Throughout the whole track, the noises of harmonic guitar riffs fill the atmosphere before switching to skull-crushing metal and both guitarists do a great job complimenting the band’s established musical style. Thomson and Root are talented guitarists who are not afraid to show off their skills on “Yen.”
“Warranty” features intense drum playing and percussion from Michael Pfaff and Shawn Crahan. The sound of Pfaff and Crahan smashing the barrels with their sticks contributes to the lingering intensity, perfectly matching the same pace as the rest of the band. “Warranty” is a fun and catchy tune with Pfaff and Crahan playing their hearts out on percussion.
The ever-so-creepy “Medicine For The Dead” is a creative number with a unique touch. The turntable and keyboard playing by Sid Wilson and Craig Jones evokes a quiet sensation that can be felt and heard through the madness.
“Finale” closes the album out with a sentimental bang. The whole band performs an emotional tune that listeners can relate to. Taylor’s singing shows how much he enjoys performing in front of millions of fans and the instrumentation is spot on with more in-depth harmonies that contribute to his powerful vocal performance.
Overall, Slipknot brings thrilling tracks on The End, So Far and their fans are in for a treat.
