Beach Boys at Coco Outdoors on March 2nd

The Beach Boys came onto the scene in 1966 as one of America’s distinguished pop groups, the only act able to compete for glory with the crazy global success of the Beatles with both fans and the critical listeners. Deriving from their 1961 debut with the hit “Surfin”,  the three Wilson brothers — Brian, Dennis, and Carl, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine put together detailed, full harmonies heard from a pop band at that time. During the mid-’60s, the Beach Boys also proved to be one of the best-produced groups, with proof by their LP Pet Sounds and most memorable single “Good Vibrations.”

The band’s post 60’s material is not as popular or recognizable, but the Beach Boys continued to make music into the ’70s. Each member showed off well-rounded talents that were never fully exhibited during the mid-’60s. Carl became a reliable, unmistakable producer and became Brian‘s replacement as bandleader. Mike continued to be the visual focus as the frontman for live shows, and Dennis matured his talent in songwriting.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
