Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit at Hard Rock Live on Jan. 21st

Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit is an American southern rock/ alt-country band based in Alabama. They are gloriously led by Jason Isbell, who was a former member of the Drive-By Truckers. The 400 Unit consists of Jimbo Hart (bass), Browan Lollar (guitar) and Derry deBorja (keyboards). Lastly, Matt Pence (drummer) co-produces and engineers for the band mates.

Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit released a self-titled album in 2009, which was co-produced with Matt Pence. Isbell stated, “I want it to be known that it’s a band record…I want it to be known that it’s something we all did together. Even though I wrote the songs, it was a very inclusive project.” The album was recorded at FAME Studios in their home town of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Isbell mentioned he was trying to hone in on the tradition of American songwriters who have recorded in North Alabama and stay true and authentic. The southern vocals of Isbell bell are relaxed and calm with a southern grit that adds to the story of every song.

Since then the band has released 4 more albums including their last, Georgia Blue that dropped in 2021.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
