Brooklyn-based black metal titans Liturgy are all set to release their sixth studio album in two months. In the leadup to 93696‘s March 24 release, the group has just released a new single to keep fans occupied for just a few more weeks. Check out “Angel of Sovereignty” below:
The above track perfectly demonstrates the unconventional approach that put Liturgy on the map. Despite being a four-piece metal outfit, they devote their studio time to transcending the constraints that have made so many of their peers forgettable.
Made up almost entirely of a children’s choir, “Angel of Sovereignty” features multiple and complex layers of evolving vocals that culminate in the form of a divine breakthrough. The group is no stranger to bringing new ideas to a space often limited by established templates.
Founded by Ravenna Hunt- Hendrix, Liturgy have made a name for themselves by exploring art and philosophy, and everything in between. In doing so, they have mixed elements of art rock, opera and trap production into their language.
93696 is a double album that takes an intricate look into the beauty of religion, cosmic love, the feminine and metamorphosis while manifesting the ecstatic with breathtaking grandeur.
