16/2/23 – Chicago, IL – Bottom Lounge
The metalcore band from Georgia comes to Bottom Lounge in Chicago on February 16th! The current lineup consists of Cory Brandan, Grayson Stewart, Matt Marquez, Michael Palmquist and Clay Crenshaw. The band coined their name from the blonde bombshell herself, Marilyn Monroe. Norma Jean is a direct reference to Marilyn Monroe’s actual name (Wiki).
The band celebrates their ninth studio album entitled Deathrattle Sing for Me. After various member lineup changes, the band continues to stay fresh and exciting for audiences. Songs like “Spearmint Revolt” and “Any%” showcase Norma Jean’s hardcore sound. Their screaming vocals, fierce drums, and aggressive guitars give the album that hardcore punk sound. But their album showcases Norma Jean’s talents.
In songs like “el-roi” and “Parallela” the band delineates from their hardcore sound. Both songs are much slower compared to the others. Brandan’s vocals are lower and ambient. The track blends a lot of electronic sounds with a quiet guitar.
While most of their album resonates with the hardcore genre, the interludes of ambient songs create a great dynamic that will be thrilling to see live.
