French Montana at LIV on Jan. 6th

Born as Karim Kharbouch in Morocco, French Montana immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. He ended up in the Bronx of New York and began releasing the Cocaine City series of DVDs in 2002 by mixing interviews with popular hip-hop artists and unsigned talent. In 2009, he began making and releasing his own mixtapes with DJs like Evil DJ Drama and Big Mike as hosts. Within the same year, he signed with Akon’s Konvict Musik label, but in late 2011 it was announced that they ditched the contract and Montana moved on to Diddy’s Bad Boy and Rick Ross’ Maybach Music label in a joint venture.

Starting with his 2013 album, Excuse My French, he became known for collaborating with popular artists and some chart hits including “Unforgettable” from his platinum 2017 sophomore LP, Jungle Rules. In 2019, album Montana was another opportunity for French to include big-name guests that featured the hit singles “No Stylist” and “Writing on the Wall.” 2021 was a great year for another guest-heavy effort, They Got Amnesia, as well as a collaboration with Harry Fraud on 2022’s Montega.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
