American punk and hardcore band, Rise Against, emerged from the one and only fruitful Chicago’s rock scene in the early 2000s, discovering a difficult yet melodious mix of old-school punk vocals, pick slides (a popular guitar technique) and fiery grunge lines. The band’s killer spirit and innovative, human, and animal rights-esque politics made them stars of the underground scene, where they grew a devoted fan base with the help of their first two albums for San Franciscan independent label Fat Wreck Chords. Some of those fans, played a role in group’s decision to sign with Geffen in 2003 and helped the band to become certified gold. Luckily. Rise Against managed to keep their spunky D.I.Y. aesthetic. They hit the top of their commercial game with their fifth album, Appeal to Reason, and landed itself at number three on the Billboard 200. Yet, that wasn’t all. Endgame (2011) and The Black Market (2014) also did very well with the masses. Both releases went gold, and Appeal to Reason eventually went platinum. In 2021, they dropped their ninth album, Nowhere Generation.
