Junior H at FPL Solar Amphitheater on Jan. 21st

Junior H (Antonio Herrera Perez) was born in Guanajuato, Central Mexico in 2002. Invested in the knowledge of music since childhood, Perez grew up with traditional Mexican music and hip-hop on the radio. At just 12 years old, a friend and himself embarked on the challenge of creation by writing song lyrics instead of melodies as neither could play an instrument, though he spent time at local studios and learned the skill of production. At 15, three years after learning and practicing music, Junior was uprooted from the only life he’s known to move to Utah with his family. Using YouTube to teach himself the guitar caused a lack of proper training, but at the same time created a unique opportunity to play freely against the rules.

Junior H is among the sources of the corrido tumbado (trap corrido) movement. His sound is dominated by requinto and reedy baritone, and traditional corrido. He began to release his own music videos on YouTube and self-recorded a demo at m 17 called Mi Vida en un Cigarro. Luckily, one of its songs, “No Eh Cambiado,” went viral and accrued two million views in its first week.  He signed to Rancho Humilde and released Atrapado en un Sueño (Trapped in a Dream). In 2022, Junior H dropped Mi Vida en un Cigarro 2, which was the Mexican Regional number one.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
