Boyz II Men at The Miramar Cultural Center on Feb. 3rd

According to the RIAA, Boyz II Men are the most commercially successful R&B group of all time. With their nine-times platinum Cooleyhighharmony (1991) and diamond platinum II (1994), they have sold an unfathomable amount of albums. Impressively, they have three of the longest-running number one pop singles — “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” and the Mariah Carey feature “One Sweet Day”. Boyz II Men were one of the first male R&B groups to accept and execute the sort of super technical melodic embellishments (personality like vocal riffs, for example) that became popularized by vocal divas like Whitney Houston and Carey. Boyz II Men’s early music was owed to new jack swing, but the group swiftly found that what they did best was forte in lush, soulful ballads, and seamless harmonies that could be effortlessly performed to its greatest effect. Since the 90’s Boyz II Men haven’t been able to replicate their commercial success, but no one has forgotten the classics that they have created– even as mainstream R&B has grown away from girl/boy groups. The group has remained a touring act with occasional studio sessions. Some of their most notable subsequent albums are Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA (2007), Twenty (2011), and Under the Streetlight (2017).

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
