Slamming Brutal Death Metal heads turned electronica metal fusion guys come to Silicon Valley’s south bay super bar!
So I guess there is no one more qualified to talk Slamming Brutal Death Metal on mxdwn than I. Not that I am a Brutaler-Than-Thou kind of a guy but let us face such damning facts. Every true metal head is. That is why no one likes metal outside of your usual purists and elites of the genre’s scene. The metal scene is snobbier than a Rolex convention in Basel, Switzerland that serves Paul John and 2000 Chateau Lafite Rothschild by the bottle. If you didn’t catch any of my references, then good. That goes to show just how exclusive the metal scene can get. AND I LOVE IT. As men of refined and elegant taste we all need our little clubs shrouded in obscurity and regality. Anyway jokes aside, Within Destruction has gone from really well recorded and mixed underground brutal death metal sounds to a much more well produced and much more mixed annihilation of both electronica and brutal death metal. Aesthetics and vibes started from your super typical ethereal otherworldly death and destruction of the human race brought by a giant alien from outer space to a now anime and Japanese driven vibe of cyberpunk futuristic art and 90’s-Y2K internet culture art style. But with slams of course. What is a slam you ask? Well in this exclusive club of metallurgy, you are not allowed to know. If you do not know then you were clearly not invited! Peasant! Next question!
Honestly I remember years ago when I used to listen to a lot of slam and I remember these guys from the peripheral view. Don’t get me twisted though these guys are great at their craft slam or no slam. But I was always into a dirtier, more blue collar DIY sound with much much lower quality recording. Always so inspiring that you don’t need great sound gear. You really just need to be great at writing and playing great music. Surprising to see how these guys have butterflied into something so far gone from just traditional slam. I do recommend their album Lotus but more importantly Yokai. At least the opening track that catches the mood to precede the album itself. That’s something that they were always good at as a band. I was looking at their merch store and man so many goodies! What I don’t like about their music is how they have gone towards that catchy teeny bopper Hot Topic sound and I don’t like curse words but that goes with anything really. But hey good for them they know how to write popular music. As a musician myself I do encourage change like they have made in sound like this. Other tracks I recommend are Sakura and Tokoyo-No-Kuni. Other than that this group always grooves nicely with those downtuned strings.
