Beastie Boys Exhibit Opening Party with Lots of Memorabilia & Major Artists

Last night, Beyond the Streets and Control Gallery opened Exhibit, the world’s most comprehensive Beastie Boys exhibition in Los Angeles, California. Exhibit showcases New York City’s iconic music trio’s story line with a wide range of props, memorabilia, handwritten lyrical journals, and much more. The gallery hosted a private opening party in which creators, artists and fans enjoyed first-hand never-before-seen archival items.

The street art gallery Beyond the Streets opened a free and fully immersive museum-styled showcase of the legendary NYC hip-hop group Beastie Boys. The showcase, titled Exhibit, displays some of the group’s earliest recordings up to their seven multiplatinum albums, presenting the entire 40-year-history of the Beastie Boys.

Early hand-drawn flyers, pins and title art dating from a Beastie Boys’ 1982 show with the Young and the Useless are displayed near the entrance of the gallery. Exhibit does an impeccable job of taking guests on the 40-year journey up the road of the Beastie Boys’ legacy. Guests can see everything from the band’s raw comedy hip-hop roots to their creative process in lyrics, costumes, set list, and more. The museum-styled gallery displays tons of annotated lyrical sheets ranging from the group’s early years, its time with Def Jam Records, their time with Capital Records including white boards with set lists during the Hot Sauce Committee era.

The opening party held various guests such as artist Greg “Craola” Simkins, film writer Arty Nelson, artist Natalia Fabia. Celebrities such as actress Alison Brie, Fall Out Boys’ Pete Wentz, Canadian DJ A-Track, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and wife Anna Shinoda, Violet Saturn, H2O’s Toby Morse, and others also made a special appearance at the exclusive opening night of Exhibit. Guests were able to drink and mingle in the back patio in which an old MTV recording of a Beastie Boys concert was played via a projector.

Those who attend Exhibit will be able to see some of the hip-hop trio’s most iconic memorabilia such as Mike D’s iconic chains, old ticket stubs and clothing worn by the trio. Guests can also enjoy a display dedicated to the “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” music video with the action figures. Some of the most iconic memorabilia at Exhibit includes a handwritten note by Madonna to the Beastie Boys after kicking off the tour, a memo from the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood informing the band of several complaints of items falling out of their window, and the groups iconic custom Adidas uniforms.

Curated by Roger Gastman, Michael Delahaut and Tim Conton, Beyond the Streets and Control Gallery bring one of the world’s most iconic group’s back to shake up the art culture once again. The three-time Grammy Award-winning group made history with their hardcore rebellious sounds, but they also impacted the culture with their wave of influential art, style, activism, and visionary energy. The Beastie Boys changed the game as they blended the unthinkable from comedy to graffiti art, skating and more, creating a worldly experience in everything they did.

The Beastie Boys Exhibit will run from Dec. 10, 2022, through Jan. 23, 2023, at Beyond the Streets in Los Angeles, California. Presented by Beyond the Streets and Goldenvoice, Exhibit is completely free to the public simply secure your timeslot for visitation via AXS.com.
