Philadelphia-based rock band, The War on Drugs are performing A Drugcember to Remember on December 19th, 20th & 21st at Johnny Brenda’s. The fundraiser started in 2018 as a series of holiday shows benefiting The School District of Philadelphia to raise money for Philadelphia public schools. Additional fundraising will include an auction selling items like signed memorabilia and instruments.
The Americana indie rock band started in 2005 by Adam Granduceil and Kurt Vile. The band now consists of Adam Granduciel (vocals, guitar), David Hartley (bass guitar), Robbie Bennett (keyboards), Charlie Hall (drums), Jon Natchez (saxophone, keyboards), Anthony LaMarca (guitar) and Eliza Hardy Jones (keyboards). Their sound draws influence from Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, My Bloody Valentine, Talk Talk and Wilco. In 2008, they signed with the independent label Secretly Canadian to release their first full-length album Wagonwheel Blues. Two more studio albums later, after Slave Ambient and Lost in the Dream, the group released their first album on Atlantic Records, A Deeper Understanding winning the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album of 2017. Their latest album I Don’t Live Here Anymore was released last year and gained widespread critical acclaim. Last month the band announced they’ll be touring the UK and Ireland in 2023.
