The Judds at The Hard Rock on Feb. 25th

The Judds were an inspiration and icons of the sound of contemporary country music in the 1980s. Mother and daughter duo, Naomi and Wynonna, accomplished a great run of 14 number one singles from 1984 to 1989, making them one of the most popular country acts of the ’80s. Their music was known to mix musical elements of traditional country harmony singing, bluegrass, and Appalachian folk with pop, rock, and polished contemporary production. More so, Wynonna’s (the daughter of the two) strong, blues-influenced lead vocals made her one of the best female country singers of her time. More importantly though,  than their widely accepted sound — or yet, their visual appeal — was their connection and empathy towards the working-class women of America and their small-town life, because the duo had been through those same experiences themselves. Though many may have never guess, their relationship out of the spotlight was usually more contentious than it seemed. It unfortunately took a life-threatening illness to stop all performances. Mother Naomi retired from performing when she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C but was cured and able to watch her daughter and once musical partner enjoy a solo career.

Don’t miss your chance to see country legends, The Judds, at the Hard Rock Live on February 25th.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
