Album Review: Bark – Rambler of Aeons

Raw, bold, ear-bleeding metal

Belgian death metal band Bark has been raging their own musical havoc for a while and last month the band released the album Rambler of Aeons. On each track, the instrumentation is killer with each guitar riff and drum beat capturing the death metal vibe and the vocals screaming of endless insanity. Bark shakes things up with their raw talents as musicians.

The title track “Rambler of Aeons” kicks things off with a solid vocal performance by Ron Bruynseels. Throughout the entire song, Bruynseels’s strong and authoritative voice leads the band into madness, and the way Bruynseels grumbles and shouts outs the lyrics showcases his dedication to the craft.

Headbanger “I’m Here For Rock N’ Roll has fantastic drum playing by Ward Van der Straeten. In this composition, Straeten melds his drum beats perfectly within the genres of metal and rock. In the middle of the tune, Straeten switches to solid rock beats before switching back to face-smacking metal drum playing. Straeten is a talented drummer and on “I’m Here For Rock N’ Roll”, his drumming skills shine brightly.

Catchy “Messiah From Hell” is a rather unique piece that features brilliant bass guitar playing from Jorn Van der Straeten. Right at the beginning, Straeten’s deep, vibrating notes fill the atmosphere with vein-shaking noise. The best part is Straeten’s bass guitar skills contribute to the mixture of death metal and harmony. “Messiah From Hell” is a great example of what kind of a bassist Straeten is.

The closing track “Still Walking” ends the album on a high note with sizzling guitar playing by Martin Furia and Toon Huet. Although the previous songs had hard-hitting guitar playing,  Furia and Huet bring a solid dose of harmonic guitar riffs that evoke a strong vibe of classic rock. “Still Walking” is truly sensational, it brings the heavy and melodic elements together.

Rambler of Aeons is an album that consists of the elements of death metal with a hard twist of harmony and rock. Bark continue to dazzle listener’s ears with their bold musical style.
