Sydney, Australia-born EDM producer Wax Motif, whose name is Danny Chien, popped up at the end of the 2000s with an electro-house style that frequently referenced trap, hip-hop, and R&B.
Chien began his career as Wax Motif around 2008, with his EPs Conga Junk and 808 in 2009. Wax Motif and a frequent collaborator/friend Neoteric worked with Crookers in 2010, making a guest appearance on the track “Springer,” which was released on Bust ‘Em Up on Southern Fried Records/Mad Decent. As the years went on, Wax Motif continued to grow in style with the more hit singles “Celine” and “Shimmy Shake.”
Wax Motif had a huge year in his career in 2014, with the release of “Hex” on Protocol Recordings as well as remixes for Warren G, Galantis, and Deadmau5, who are large influences on EDM today. After moving to Los Angeles, he released another EP, True Joy, in 2015. A couple collabs like “Get It All” and some solo EPS were released throughout the next 2 years.
Wax Motif remained successful in delivering bops like “Unraveling” with Kaelyn Behr and 2020’s “Love to the World” with Diplo before finally releasing his first full length album House of Wax, in early 2022 after all these years.
