Robert Forster Announces New Album The Candle & The Flame For February 2023 Release, Shares Video For “Tender Years”

All chefs are guilty of putting on a private concert alone in their kitchen and Robert Forster is no different. Anyone who enjoys spending time in the kitchen should watch songwriter and co-founder of The Go-Between, Robert Forster, sing and groove to his new single ‘The Tender Years’ while he prepares his breakfast.  Forster created this album in promotion of his new single, scheduled to be released on his next album The Candle And The Flame.

The promotional video was released Wednesday, November 23rd in preparation for Forster’s next album, The Candle And The Flame, set to be released in February of 2023. ‘The Tender Years’ is the second single released off of The Candle And The Flame following the release of ‘She’s a Fighter’ earlier this year. The writing for The Candle And The Flame began in 2018 with the help of his entire family. The music is inspired, in part, by Forster’s wife and her unfortunate diagnosis with ovarian cancer in 2021.

The making of The Candle And The Flame worked as a project for the family to use to bond them in the aftermath of the cancer diagnosis. This album can be seen as a living journal of the family’s thoughts and feelings in processing the diagnosis with songs such as ‘She’s A Fighter’ detailing the journey of Forster’s chemo treatment and battle with ovarian cancer.  While only the last album on The Candle And The Flame was written after the initial cancer diagnosis, it is not the only song brought from a place of darkness. Despite being written before the cancer diagnosis, ‘‘The Tender Years’ follows the same theme as ‘She’s a fighter’, serving as both a bittersweet love letter and a heartbreaking story of a man facing the death of a partner. The song captures the desolating reality of confronting the possibility of losing the person one has spent a lifetime with.
