Come check out popular duo SUNN O))) (pronounced “sun”) in mid December. Often dressed in long black coats when performing, they plan to play Thalia Hall on Dec. 13 for their upcoming concert in Chicago.
Besides their live album Metta, Benevolence BBC6 Music: Live on the Invitation of Mary Anne Hobbs, the most recent release by SUNN O))) is their 2019 studio album Pyroclasts. The LP consists of four songs, each over 10 minutes in length: “Frost (C),” “Kingdoms (G),” “Ampliphædies (E)” and “Ascension (A).” SUNN O))) recorded Pyroclasts in Chicago, just as they did with their other 2019 LP release, Life Metal. Similar to Pyroclasts, the four tracks of Life Metal extend to over 10 minutes, the longest of which reaches 25. The tunes include “Between Sleipnir’s Breaths,” “Troubled Air,” “Aurora” and “Novae.”
Artists Stephen O’Malley and Gregg Anderson currently make up the SUNN O))) pair. Their music falls into the drone metal realm and exhibits experimental elements. SUNN O))) came out with their hour-long debut studio album in 2000, titled ØØVOID. Since their first project’s premiere, the artists of SUNN O))) have added eight additional LPs to their repertoire, not including collaborative albums such as 2006 Altar with Boris and 2014 Terrestrials with Ulver.
