KATATONIA at Metro on Nov. 20

Heavy metal group KATATONIA will visit near the end of November. Just four days before Thanksgiving, Chicago fans can be grateful for the band’s upcoming arrival. Check out their show at Metro on Nov. 20 with special guests The Ocean Collective and Cellar Darling.

Soon to have a dozen studio albums in their rockin’ repertoire, KATATONIA is coming out with a new record. Set to release on Jan. 20, 2023, their website calls Sky Void of Stars their “hauntingly beautiful next studio album,” so it’s safe to say the band’s excited. Fans can get excited too, as KATATONIA recently released the first single of Sky Void of Stars, titled “Atrium.” Though their sound still a mystery to the public, other songs to appear on Sky Void of Stars include “Austerity,” “Opaline,” “Drab Moon,” “Impermanence” and “Birds.”

The Swedish rockers of KATATONIA assembled their group in 1991, though their breakthrough success exploded about 20 years later. Debut LP Dance of December Souls remains a product of the 1993 metal scene, while their most recognized albums Night Is the New Day, Dead End Kings, and The Fall of Hearts came out in 2009, 2012 and 2016, respectively. Their latest album dropped in 2020, a 12-track LP called City Burials, putting three years between their last album and upcoming work. This too was a commercial success, and concert attendees can hopefully look forward to hearing it along with earlier classics and a selection of new material.

Rock on with the hard-hitting musicians of KATATONIA and their special guests The Ocean Collective and Cellar Darling. To snag tickets for the Nov. 20 concert at Metro, visit etix.com.
