Gypsie/Ska nonet from literally around the globe comes to San Francisco’s Warfeild for one night only!
Gorgol Bordello is a group known for their wild and wacky music orchestrated by nine musical craftsman from around the world. Formed in the early Y2K era via The Big Apple’s melting pot lifestyle, it started by amalgamating beautiful Slavic music with 2/4 time signature punk melodies and bam! A new creature spawned from another world was born.
What does Gorgol Bordello mean? I don’t know. Why do they play music? I don’t know. What do they sound like? Now that I do know. They have a really strong reggae-gypsie vibe with obvious melodic punk-rock inspiration. If you’re reading this, maybe you already like this band and you never left the 90’s or it’s ska/punk movement. So since you still live in the 90’s, remember that sitcom; Seinfeld? Ya this group plays music that I’m sure Kramer would be so down with gyrating hard in his apartment across from Jerry’s. I’m serious. This music is downright weird. Zesty. I’m personally not a man of the zest. I’m more of a bitter person (standing here shrugging my shoulders). Like loose leaf tea or vinegar and dumplings. Great now I’m hungry.
On Spotify they have 250,195 monthly listeners as of this writing. Their most popular song Start Wearing Purple comes in at 16.5 million plays as of Oct 2022 and that song was published on an album from 2005! Wow these guys have a loyal fan base! The album is titled Gypsie Punks: Underdog World Strike and it seem that most of their most popular tracks on Spotify are off that album alone. Interesting. You see, they’ve released six full length albums since Underdog, including this year’s release Solidaritine and the only other songs that seem to be popular on Spotify is one song each off their 2002 and their 2007 releases.
