The Flaming Lips’s American Head American 2022 Tour is winding down to an end this November. The tour is set to conclude on Nov. 21 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California.
The psychedelic rock band, The Flaming Lips, are currently on their 2022 American Tour celebrating the release of their latest album American Head. The album is the band’s 16th studio album and was released back in 2020. This tour is the first with frontman and lead vocalist Wayne Coyne as the only remaining original member.
The Flaming Lips was formed in Oklahoma City in 1983 by Wayne Coyne, Mark Coyne and Michael Ivins. The band released their debut album Hear It Is in 1986. Their sixth studio album, Transmissions from the Future Head, launched the band into the mainstream with their hit single “She Don’t Use Jelly.”
The band earned their first Grammy Award in 2003 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for their single “Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon.” In 2007, The Flaming Lips won two more Grammy Awards for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Rock Performance. In 2018, the band was nominated for a Tony Award for their single “Tomorrow Is” for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical.
Despite the various changes in the band’s lineup, it still remains one of the most influential and genre-bending bands of all time. They’re constant out-of-this world collaborations and projects keep fans on their toes. Their most recent collaboration with singer-songwriter Nell Smith stunned the world as they recorded nine cover songs of Nick Cave when Smith was just 14 years old.
