Pixies are heading on tour this October 2022 in support of their upcoming album, Doggerel, set to release on Sept. 30. The tour kicks off with three consecutive shows in California, stopping at San Diego, Anaheim and LA. Their show for Anaheim on Sunday, Oct. 2 has quickly sold-out but is followed by another show in LA on Monday, Oct. 3 at The Wiltern.
The alternative rock band is celebrating their eight-studio album, Doggerel, which follows their 2019 album, Beneath the Eyrie. On Sept. 6, Pixies released “Dregs Of The Wine,” a new single from their forthcoming album, a song co-written with guitarist Joey Santiago. Doggerel will be the fourth album since the Pixies’ reformation in 2004.
Pixies formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts, but split in 1993. Nearly 10 years later, the band reunited for a reunion tour. After several reunion shows immediately sold out, the band released a new song, “Bam Thwok.” The same year, the group was awarded the Act-of-the Year Award in the 2004 Boston Music Awards. Though Pixies made special appearance at Lollapalooza and Coachella, they did not release new material until 2013 after the dismal of Kim Deal.
Despite the multiple changes in the band’s lineup, Pixies is still considered one of the most influential 90s alternative rock. They are recognized for their mixed sound of punk rock, surf rock and dynamic shifts. Pixies has influenced a wide range of artists from U2, to Arcade Fire and even Kurt Cobain who openly admitted to drawing influences from the band when writing his smash hits.
