The Smashing Pumpkins will team up with Jane’s Addiction onstage for their upcoming joint tour: Spirits on Fire. The Smashing Pumpkins return to their Chicago roots on Nov. 5, featuring Jane’s Addiction as a special guest.
In 2020, The Smashing Pumpkins released their most recent album, Cyr, which was accompanied by five-part animated series In Ashes. Jane’s Addiction’s most recent album was their 2011 release The Great Escape Artist, not including their live album releases such as Live in NYC and Alive at Twenty-Five – Ritual De Lo Habitual Live. Seeing a trend of live concert albums, Jane’s fans could possibly expect another following the Spirits on Fire tour.
Forming in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins assembled just three years after Jane’s Addiction in Los Angeles. Both alternative rock bands have earned Grammy recognition, Jane’s Addiction with five nominations and The Smashing Pumpkins with eleven nominations and two wins. Jane’s Addiction received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, and The Smashing Pumpkins cemented their handprints in front of the TCL Chinese Theater on May 11.
Jane’s Addiction split twice, with an official reformation in 2001. The Pumpkins broke up in 2000, playing their then-final concert at The Metro in Chicago. Five years later, lead singer Billy Corgan announced the band’s reunion, and they released Zeitgeist in 2006. Cyr is their 11th studio album, and seeing as Spirits on Fire will be the first tour since its release, attendees can expect a taste of the double-LP’s synthy undertones.
