Khruangbin coming to Austin, Texas next September 24th

Khruangbin is a Texas-native trio. The members of the group are guitarist Mark Speer, bassist Laura Lee, and drummer Donald Johnson.

The name of this band means airplane. Khruangbin has a peculiar sound that most people aren’t quite able to pin to any familiar style or genre. It is different from most genres and creates a unique, cool vibe.  Other than the theatrical nature of their personas, there’s no particular musical aesthetic they’re going for.

The connection between the band’s members began back in the mid-2000s—before Laura Lee ever picked up bass guitar. Mark and DJ played together in a church band in Houston, and the drummer could tell from the start that Speer’s sound was something special. As DJ explains, “I told him, like, man, I don’t know how, but the world needs to hear this … He’d be like, ‘Get out of here.’” 

There is a reason why God and the universe reunited these musicians, their fate was to join their talents and create phenomenal music.
