Lee Burridge & Lost Desert bring the party to the world with their newest release
House DJs Lee Burridge and Lost Desert have collaborated to create their newest EP, Les Voyageurs De La Nuit. The album features perspectives on many aspects of the genre. From strings and conga drums to vocals and snaps, there is something for every fan of house music to enjoy.
The EP starts with “Here With You,” a chill song with a gradual build-up. The song nicely warms up the mood for the rest of the album; it sounds like a party starting up somewhere. The calm mood of this track is a great way to ease oneself into the EP and find themselves bopping along at some vague point eager for the rest of it. In terms of instrumentation, it’s fairly minimalistic, with a rhythm section behind some simple keyboard motives and a sprinkle of synths. The song does not feel overdone, yet is very danceable. Though the song remains on the tonic chord during the entire piece, there is still plenty of movement, variation, and contrast throughout, and the song is easily engaging to the listener.
A little more upbeat is the second song and title track, “Les Voyageurs De La Nuit.” It starts subtly with conga drums and a backing beat, adding on synths upon entering the first theme. “Les Voyageurs De La Nuit” has a casual, mellow mood, perfect for lounging with friends or chilling alone. Instrumentation-wise, this piece follows suit with the first song, consisting of minimalistic drums and a single-lined keyboard solo. It is groovy and light-hearted and makes for a perfect transition into the heart of the EP.
“Slave to the Strings” starts with a classic hip-hop style beat, then enters some smooth synth chords, which deviates from the styles of the previous two tracks. The motives in this piece are simplistic, adding to the easy feel of the song, but the layered strings that begin around two minutes into the track create more tension and come from a cinematic place. Though the whole album makes for pretty easy listening, this song in particular has more of a darker ambient sound, but it still fits into the dance floor mood of the whole EP.
The fourth and final song on the EP is called “You May Never Leave,” and is the only piece on the EP with a hint towards vocals or lyrics, which are presumably titular. This piece has a long rhythmic intro, which seems to add some suspense, alluding to its mysterious and eerie quality. The development of instrumentation, happens very subtly and gradually, creating an ethereal listening experience.
