Album Review: Samanta Liza – Days of E.N.D.

New electronic album by Samanta Liza is both mellow and vibrant

World citizen, but Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, DJ and music producer Samanta Liza recently released a new album, Days of E.N.D., a vibrant album full of conviction.

The first song on the album is called “Some People Do Nothing.” It starts with a sample of someone talking about a “horoscope” they are reading, ending with the quote “some people do nothing.” The song has a watery feeling to it, with shimmering bell synths played on top of a stronger bass synth in the first section and throughout the development of the song.

“We Are Not Friends” is a softer, slower song that features some electric and reverbed guitar in its instrumentation, along with singing. The song is sad—about a lost friendship. It has indie-pop and indie-rock vibes.

“Daydreaming” is one of the more ethereal tracks on the album. It is a love song featuring mainly piano and vocals. Stream-of-consciousness lyrics convey the experiences of the speaker straight from their heart. Although the song starts pretty mellow, it develops at some points, giving it a hopeful edge.

“Let Me Grow” leans on the mellow side as well. The lyrics are full of contrasting phrases, and there is a sense that the speaker is feeling overwhelmed by something, or someone not “[letting them] grow.” There is a climactic point in the song where cymbals crash and the vocals are distorted which also illustrates this mood.

“Threads,” featuring artist Panté, leans more into an EDM sound, with warm synths and bass sounds, a dance beat, and vocals. The lyrics speak of someone being pulled by another who has a hold on them by means of a thread. The mood is dark and subdued.

“Sweet Lies,” which also features Panté, is a more upbeat, yet still dark song. This song features new synth sounds over an echoing keyboard and vocals throughout. The mood is dreamy and mysterious, and there is a really mesmerizing panning effect towards the end of the piece.

This album is for anyone who is looking for soft EDM vibes, a type of music that is not intense but is easy to dance to. The lyrics, vocals, and instrumentations are all easy to listen to. Each song, though adhering to the overall themes of the album, is all individual and provides a different experience from the others.
