The American singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine originally from Philadelphia is coming to Austin, Texas next September 30th. The artist will be performing at Antone’s, the iconic blues venue located in downtown Austin.
McAlpine took music seriosuly and decided that she wanted to risk it all to take a real chance on being a musician. The artist dropped out of college in the middle of the pandemic to start realising her music. McAlpine started writing music in 6th grade at the age of 12. Her musical style can be described as folk-pop and folk-focused. McAlpine released her debut EP, Indigo in 2018. She went to study abroad in the fall of 2019, where she wrote her debut studio album, Give Me A Minute and she released the album in August 2020. The album has been streamed millions of times on Spotify and other digital service providers. This album was named one of the best albums of 2020 by Dallas Observer.
A unique fact about this artist is the way she incorporates her dad in her music. McAlpine’s dad unofrtunately passed away in 2020, and she decided to take this as an isnpiration to write songs where she could talk about her grieve and remember her dad. “There was a song about my dad on the first album I put out, Give Me a Minute. Strangely, he passed on March 13 of 2020, which was the craziest time in the world. Then the album came out on the 13th of August with 13 songs and the 13th song was about him. I did not plan any of that.” Lizzy has a tattoo of the number “13” on the back of her right hand between her wrist and thumb. Lizzy McAlpine makes certain that every project she releases from here on has a song about her father.
