JG Thirlwell announced that he will be presenting his Silver Mantis live surround-sound performance and visual project in Los Angeles on Sept. 25, 2022, at the 2220 Arts and Archives.
Australian musician, JG Thirlwell, also known as Foetus and many more names, is set to perform a live solo performance of his work Silver Mantis. The immersive multi-channel performance using prepared grand piano, electronics and theremin is paired with the projection of film by Swedish visual artist Sten Beckman.
In 2019, Thirlwell performed the European premiere of his Silver Mantis project with supporting act Sally Golding. The Silver Mantis project incorporates live re-compositions and improvisations, never performed exactly the same. The project has been performed at Café Oto in London, Roulette in New York City and Elastic Arts in Chicago.
The composer, producer and performer is based in Brooklin, New York and has released over thirty albums. He’s worked under a variety of names such as Manorexia, Foetus, Xordox, Steroid Maximus, Clint Ruin and many more. Thirlwell’s musical styles vary, but one thing in common is the dramatic intensity within his music.
Thirlwell has created solo sound installations which have displayed in Italy, Russia and more. He also creates the musical score for the Emmy-winning FX show Archer and for Adult Swim and Cartoon Network show The Venture Bros, which has earned Thirlwell a nomination for an Annie Award.
Thirlwell will be accompanied by Los Angeles-based guitar conjurer and composer, Noveller, for his special Silver Mantis performance this September. Following a European tour with Iggy Pop, Noveller, also known as Sarah Lipstate, is set for her homecoming performance at the 2220 Arts and Archives venue. Noveller has emerged as an innovative and defining voice in the world of music due to her unique sounds and transcendent approach to composition.
