The Lumineers in Austin, Texas on August 20th

The fantastic American Folk Rock band based in Denver, Colorado is coming to Austin, Texas next August 20th.

The Lumineers go back to 2005. The founders of the band are Wesley Schultz, and Jeremiah Fraites. Schultz and Fraites began writing and performing together in Ramsey, New Jersey. By 2009 the band had gained more popularity and the group started taking music more seriously. The band relocated to Denver, Colorado where they met the multi-instrumentalist and cellist Neyla Pekarek.

Mistakes are not that bad sometimes. The story behind the name of the band is a unique one. There are multiple names the band had before they decided to call themselves The Lumineers. The band’s previous names were: Free Beer, Wesley Jeremiah, and 6Cheek. The reason why the band decided to call themselves The Lumineers is because of a mistake.

“We were playing small club in Jersey City, N.J.,” explains Schultz, “and there was a band out there at the time called Lumineers who were slotted for the same time, same day, the next week. The person running the show that night [mistakenly] announced us as The Lumineers.”

According to Schultz the name just instantly stuck, and this was the beginning of an era.
