Lizzo in Austin, Texas on October 25th at Moody Center

The American rapper Melissa Viviane Jefferson (Lizzo), was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Texas at a young age. Lizzo is a singer, songwriter, and performer. She blends hip-hop and soul. Her music talks about issues of sexuality, body positivity, race, and more.

Lizzo started making music officially at the age of 14. The first music group she founded was called The Cornrow Clique, throughout her career she has been the founder of different hip-hop groups. Lizzo attended many freestyle rap battles in Houston, where she participated in a few of them.

In 2005 Lizzo enrolled college, and her family moved to a different place. Lizzo did not have a place to live at the time and decided to drop off out of college. Lizzo somehow managed to keep building connections in the music industry. Not having a place to live and sleeping in her car did not stop Lizzo from following her goals. Lizzo’s first solo album Lizzobangers was released in 2013.

Life’s unexpected and Lizzo’s trajectory is proof of it. Lizzo started in the music industry wanting to become an orchestral flutist, and although she still practices her remark in the music was made through rap and pop. This talented artist received eight nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards and won three nominations.
