Sharon Van Etten Shares Cinematic New Music Video For “Headspace”

American singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten has unveiled a new music video for her track “Headspace.” Beware photosensitive viewers, the music video has flashing lights! The song is off her latest album We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong which was released in May 2022.

Speaking about the track’s meaning, Van Etten commented, “When I was writing this song, I wanted to talk about domesticity and intimacy frustrations under the tensions of working at home and seeking connection while being tied to our devices and still trying to reach each other as lovers, parents, humans… Reminding each other that there is still a primal attraction even in the midst of the mundane and repetition of everyday life.”

The video is delightfully cinematic with Van Etten trying to separate a couple from their electronic devices in order to bring them closer together. The couple is shown throughout the video to be suffering from their lack intimacy due to their technology addiction.  However, even Van Etten herself gets trapped in the addictiveness of technology, being physically trapped in a television.

Later this month, Van Etten will be touring with Angel Olsen and Julien Baker on their Wild Hearts outing. She will also be playing alongside Quinn Christopherson, Patti Smith, Devendra Banhart and The Little Tulips.
