Julien Baker Announces New EP B-Sides for July 2022 and Releases Melancholy New Single “Guthrie”

Julien Baker has announced a new EP of tracks, B-Sides, which will be released digitally on July 21 on Matador Records. The collection of EPs is taken from the recording sessions of Baker’s third full-length album, Little Oblivions, and contains three never-before-heard songs. Today, fans can listen to a song from B-Sides, titled “Guthrie”, and watch an accompanying music video.

The video for the song features the melody played over black-and-white footage of cattle ranching and natural shots of the American West, invoking a callback to the frontier age. The visuals add to the haunting, longing nature of the song. It fits right into Baker’s oeuvre of emotionally frank music, with “Guthrie” discussing themes of personal disillusionment: “Used to call upon the Spirit, now I think heaven lets it ring/Wanted so bad to be good, but there’s no such thing”.

Baker will be going on tour, starting on the same day as the release of B-Sides. As previously reported, Baker, Sharon Van Etten, and Angel Olsen will all be co-headlining The Wild Hearts Tour, which will run throughout the summer.
