Amon Amarth Announce New Album The Great Heathen Army For August 2022, Shares Title Track

Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth have announced a new album entitled The Great Heathen Army for release on August 5 via Metal Blade Records. The group is offering a taste of what’s to come with the release of their new title track and accompanying music video.

The music video was directed by Pavel Trebukhin and was shot exclusively in Riga, Latvia. The song features lead vocalist Johan Hegg’s signature growl which pairs well with the powerful performance of the band and the darkness of the video.

Speaking about the album’s announcement, the group commented, “The armada of the Great Heathen Army is at sea on the way to raid, but before we land at distant shores on August 5th we have a new single and video for you to feast on. This is the title track from the new album with a video we shot with the talented Pavel Trebukhin in Riga, Latvia. Who will you choose to fight with? The Vikings or the Saxons? Choose well and the Gods will decide your fate.”

The Great Heathen Army marks the band’s twelfth studio album following their most recent record 2019’s Berserker. Back in May 2021, the group released rerecorded version of their 2001 classic track “Masters of War” as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Crusher. Earlier this year, Amon Amarth shared their viking-inspired song and video “Put Your Back Into The Oar.”
