After their performance at the So What Festival, Michigan-based metalcore rock band I Prevail is preparing to release their third album, True Power, and gave their fans a hint of what’s to come on the album by releasing their new single, “Body Bag.” According to Loudwire, “Body Bag” is the band’s first single from the metalcore band’s upcoming album. True Power will be the band’s first studio album since their 2019 album Trauma, which was the fourth best-selling album of the week in the United States at the time of its release. Trauma also features singles, including “Rise Above It” and “Breaking Down” (the song took a spot in the top 10 of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart).
I Prevail became best known back in 2014 when they went viral for their metal cover of Taylor Swift’s 2014 hit “Blank Space.” The metal cover went platinum and reached number 9 on the Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart. While discussing his feelings about how their version of “Blank Space” gave the band fame and recognition, Brian Burkheiser told the Chicago Tribune, “We put the cover out, and oh, my lord. It was the biggest afterthought.”
In true metalcore fashion, the song is incredibly heavy. Vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe’s death growls control most of the song, but Burkeiser’s lighter, melodic vocals serve as a break from Vanlerberghe’s vocals. Listen to the energetic track below.
