Album Review: Elninodiablo – The Body Electric EP

Elninodiablo releases his latest EP, full of intrigue

Berlin-based industrial techno artist Elninodiablo has just released his latest EP, The Body Electric EP. A dark, rhythmic and eclectic techno album, the work combines different types of rhythms and symmetries to create a well-rounded and enjoyable listen.

The first song on the EP is called “Vaugahyde,” which is a four-minute-long trip into dark bass drum ecstasy and asymmetrical rhythm. The song has a sci-fi-sounding theme, with robotic synths and sound effects. The song is dark but has playful elements, combining random sounds like a cowbell and robotic sound effects to create out-of-this-world themes.

“Body Electric,” the album’s title track, has a Latin vibe attached to a techno ambiance. The song sounds somewhat danceable, but also works as an enjoyable listening piece. As the song develops, more sounds are added to the main rhythms and synths, more layers upon an already pretty developed theme. Vocal elements are then introduced towards the middle of the track. As the song continues, we are taken along a journey of various themes and moods at an intermittent pace. Overall, the song is eclectic and fun to listen to, still retaining the album’s dark mood, but adding a feeling of party atmosphere to it as well.

“Twilight” is a fascinating piece with watery-sounding synths above a droning bassline that gives the piece the dark mood that is a common theme of the whole album. The song has a beautiful ambiance to it in the middle section, which brings the watery element to the forefront and really shines through in the piece. From this section onto the end is the development of the piece. This middle section is much more moving than the first sections and feels like a shift in awareness.

This album is great for anyone looking for laid-back music to listen to that still possesses elements of danceability and rhythmicality. The dark techno themes and sounds are soothing but exciting, and overall, the album employs a great deal of interesting and awesome techniques.
