Pixies Announce New Album “Doggerel” for September 2022 Release and Shares Energizing New Single “There’s A Moon On”

The legendary alternative rock group The Pixies have announced eighth studio album titled Doggerel. The upcoming project is set to release on September 30 via BMG. In promotion of the new project, The Pixies have dropped a new single titled “There’s a Moon On,” along with a lyric video.

A press release from the band has described the upcoming project as a mixture of gruesome folk, brutal rock and ballroom pop, exploring concepts such as indulgence, cosmic forces and afterlives. Pixies’ Joey Santiago notes that Doggerel will be substantially different from what may be expected of the band: “This time around we have grown. We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there.”

The group’s vocalist and guitarist Black Francis notes that, in the new project, the band is “trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit. There’s another way to do this, there’s other things we can do with this extra special energy that we’re encountering.”

“There’s a Moon On” offers the first taste of what fans may expect going into the new album. True to the band’s intention around the the new album, this first offering quickly shows itself as being haunting and dark while also being dynamic and catchy. Frontman Black Francis’ vocals and lyrics are especially eerie, while also showing moments of great energy, including the shouting of “come on!” to introduce the track’s gorgeous guitar solo. Doggerel will follow the band’s previous 2019 album Beneath The Eyrie. The Pixies have previously released a song titled “Hear Me Out” featuring the band’s bassist Paz Lenchantin on vocals.
