On March 27, 2022, the legendary pioneering rock band The Melvins teamed up with pioneering industrial metal band Ministry’s drummer, Roy Mayorga, on a performance in Austin, Texas. In their performance together, we see the musicians perform two Melvins classics: “Hooch” and “Honey Bucket.”

Video of Mayorga’s live collaboration with The Melvins has been uploaded to YouTube in all its glory, showing a phone recording of the show from the side of the stage. Throughout the performance, we watch Roy Mayorga and Melvins’ drummer Dale Crover play in sync with one another, with both musicians tending to play the same as the other. The footage begins with a simple but powerful beat, slowly increasing in intensity and speed to lead into the first song.

The performance of “Hooch” is notably far faster than the original 1993 rendition. Whereas the original provided a slow and heavy approach, the Austin performance changes this up to create a far different grooving feel. The faster rendition of “Hooch” is then used to create a more seamless transition into the naturally faster “Honey Bucket.” The vocals of frontman Buzz Osborne, even after four decades of activity since their start in the early ’80s, still hit incredibly hard and keep high levels of energy and intensity.

All throughout the performance of both tracks, the usage of two separate drummers, especially drummers of this caliber and accuracy, to play the same track, creates a sound that feels absolutely massive. Watch Roy Mayorga team up with The Melvins via YouTube below.

The Melvins have recently released an EP with Dumb Numbers titled Broken PipeMinistry has recently announced that they have recorded eight songs for their upcoming sixteenth studio album.
