Laura Veirs Shares Invigorating New Song And Video “Seaside Haiku”

Portland-based artist Laura Veirs premieres “Seaside Haiku” today, a new track off her forthcoming album Found Light, due out July 8th via Raven Marching Band Records. The track “Seaside Haiku” comes from a series of haikus Veris wrote on a solo vacation in Seaside, Oregon, and it’s powerful message displays the artist’s groundbreaking newfound growth and optimism.

The track is as lovely as it is personal. “This song captures the feeling I had of my emerging independence as a solo woman in the world during that wintry time,” she explains. “It’s been a learning curve for me to figure out how not to give too much of myself in relationships at the expense of my own needs. This is a song to remind myself of that, and also to remind all women who are socialized to give so much to others. It’s a call to hold onto our strength and power and to share it reciprocally instead of blithely giving it away.”

“Seaside Haiku” sounds like a solemn, reflective song. But while the track is reflective, it radiates growth and life-changing happiness. It’s clear that this level of personal advancement is one that can only come from within. Veirs’ wholesome perspective on self-improvement and independence shines bright in the track. The song is a perfect example of what can happen when we’re honest with ourselves, admitting our woes, but moving forward.

Veirs is heading out on the road this summer, with string of U.K. shows in June and North American dates in July, including stops at Washington DC’s Union Stage (7/27) and NYC’s Public Records (7/28). Tickets are available here.
