James Howard Jackson was unintentionally released from jail on April 6, 2022 due to a “clerical error.” The 19 year old was in custody due to an attempted murder of Lady Gaga’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer, who had been walking the singer’s three French bulldogs at the time.
The star has had a busy year aside from this latest update. She was most recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in House of Gucci. Also in 2021, she released her album Dawn of Chromatica and her collaborative album with Tony Bennett, Love for Sale
Officials released Jackson due to his case being listed as “dismissed” on the department’s website, but the case is still active. The indictment was filed under a new case number, so the judge dismissed the old number. Jackson should not have been released; he had spent a year in custody and was required to pay over $3 million in order to make bail.
There is some debate over whether or not Jackson was aware of the dogwalker being an employee of the multi-talented superstar Lady Gaga. Deputy District Attorney Michele Hanisee claimed that Jackson shot Fischer because he refused to give him the star’s dogs. She says that there is no evidence that the attackers knew that the dogs were Lady Gaga’s; rather, it is assumed they shot Fischer and took the dogs because they knew the dogs are worth a substantial amount due to their breed.
In a statement by the department, they said: “The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the inadvertent release from custody of defendant James Howard Jackson… Defendant Jackson attended court proceedings at the Clara Shortridge Criminal Justice Center on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, and was released from custody on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, due to a clerical error. The investigation is continuing and the LASD Major Crimes Bureau is actively working to get Mr. Jackson back in custody.”
They have asked anyone with knowledge on Jackson’s whereabouts to get in touch with authorities.
