Jack Johnson Announces New Album Meet The Moonlight For June 2022 Release Alongside Summer 2022 Tour Dates, Shares New Single “One Step Ahead”

Jack Johnson announces a series of dates sure to excite fans. The first announced the release of the first single off of his upcoming album, made available to the public on April 8, 2022; the second will be the release date for his new full-length album Meet the Moonlight, which will be made available on June 24, 2022; the final dates correspond to his Meet the Moonlight tour, which will begin on June 21, 2022 in Gilford, NH.

The single “One Step Ahead” is available on all digital platforms and was released with a video. Johnson was quoted describing the song: “We’re at a point where human nature hasn’t changed but the technology around us has changed dramatically, and it’s getting to this dangerous place where the most extreme and sensationalized opinions have the potential to be heard by so many people… That line in the chorus is about trying to breathe through the noise and get to a calmer place, which seems important when we’re seeing a lot of friends lose trust and grow away from each other because they disagree over some issue or another.”

They precede the album, which is Johnson’s eighth studio album and first full-length release in five years. The album’s producer is Blake Mills of Alabama Shakes and Perfume Genius fame.

In describing the sound they were trying to achieve, Johnson details his correspondence with Mills: “When Blake and I first got in touch we’d send each other playlists, and over time we realized we were drawn to music that sounds effortless despite all the effort put into making it… After a while we got a language together and I gained a trust in him that allowed me to let go, push outside my comfort zone, and get to a sound I really loved.”

On Earth Day, which is on April 22, 2022 this year, Johnson will perform on the Kōkua Learning Farm, “an educational and agricultural destination located in the heart of Haleʻiwa, Hawaiʻi.” The farm is part of Johnson’s project, Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation, which seeks to promote environmental stewardship. Fans can watch the performance on Earth Day on social media.
