A dreamy concoction of gentle vocals and soulful beats
To kick off 2022, Molly Moore released her 4 track EP Escapism on February 11th. Featuring three singles and one new track, this is Moore’s first body of work since her 2020 album Voice on the Internet. A dreamy concoction of gentle vocals and soulful beats, this EP is nothing short of wonderful.
Starting off with latest single “Shy,” Moore sings about having a crush and wondering if they like you back. An easygoing, chill track, this song is a great way to kick off the EP. The verses burst into an upbeat chorus, where Moore repeats “so shy!” This is a fun, lighthearted track that can put anyone in a good mood.
“Do They?” was the first single released from this EP, and it sits as track number 2. The chorus is the most interesting part of this song, as it’s purely instrumental and is a bit more abstract than the rest of the track. With a playback time of 2:16, this is the shortest track on the project. It’s a great song, and if it were longer it would’ve been even better.
The third track “Vacation” is the only song off of this project that wasn’t released previously as a single, and it’s a very chill, laid-back track. It sounds like it could be on a Kali Uchis album, another phenomenal pop artist. This is the slowest song on the record and is a great track to turn on when you’re in the mood to relax
To wrap up the EP, we have “Marco Polo,” a collaboration with NoMBe. Another gentle song with some slight trap influences in the beat, this track builds to the chorus in a stellar fashion. Like “Do They?,” a section of the chorus is just instrumental, which serves as a transition between Moore’s and NoMBe’s verses. A fun, danceable track, “Marco Polo” finishes up the EP on a high note.
Between the three singles and the new track, this EP was a great follow-up to Moore’s 2020 album and showcases her ability to create gentle pop music that can uplift anyone.
