Record brings heart-pounding vibes
Californian band Mordom is known for their gloomy music that has face-smacking metal, and earlier last month, the band released their second album, Cry Of The Dying World. Although there are only four songs on this record, each track is beautifully crafted by the talents of Max Hoffman (bass, vocals, keyboards) and Nathan Gonzalez (drums).
The ever somber “Narcosis” features vastly dynamic instrumentation, allowing the feeling of being in a dark atmosphere to be felt through Gonzalez’s delicate drum playing and Hoffman’s blazing guitar and keyboard playing. In some ways, the instrumentation will leave listeners feeling that they are in a world with no light due to how the darkness continues to rage havoc on their souls.
The headbanging track “Betrayed” is a vein-shaker featuring great guitar playing. While listening, people can hear how Hoffman creates sharp lead and bass guitar riffs. The electric guitar shakes the air with great authority while the bass guitar shakes the background with deep rumbles. Hoffman does know to grab people’s attention with his guitar skills on “Betrayed.”
“The Fire” is a quieter, emotional song featuring an amazing guitar and vocal performance from Hoffman. Right off the bat, the acoustic guitar hums bittersweet notes while Hoffman uses his soft voice to express the anguish he is feeling. The feeling of hopelessness radiates through Hoffman’s strong vocal performance, and it is nice to hear how he uses his voice to show people how he feels while the dark world remains silent. Although this is the shortest track on the album, “The Fire” is truly a masterpiece.
The closing song, “The Mausoleum,” ends things with a nice style of metal/rock drum beats by Gonzalez. The mixture of metal and rock beats gives this composition a kick of creativeness by how slow the musical tempo is. The sound of the cymbals and drum heads gives an idea of how dreary Mordom’s world is, and Gonzalez does a fantastic job with using his talents to help create a scary world that has endless insanity on “The Mausoleum.”
